Allen Johnson clobbers M35 WR with cosmic 12.96

At 35, he’s still on top of the world. Jim Dunaway’s quickie report from today’s World Cup meet in Athens: “Allen Johnson could not have gotten a better start if he had been fired out of a cannon. The 35-year-old three-time world champion was visibly in front going over the first hurdle and stayed there despite the best efforts of Lu Xiang, Dayron Robles, and Stanislav Olijars, who pressed him all the way. Even in the run-in, world record holder Liu made it close. But Johnson didn’t make a mistake, and won in a dazzling 12.96 (+0.4), followed by Liu (13.03), Robles (13.06) and Olijars (13.15).” In so doing, AJ demolished the previous M35 world age-group record of 13.11 by Britain’s Colin Jackson in 2002
