Anselm LeBourne misses M50 indoor world record 1500 by a tenth
Anselm LeBourne, our world-class middle distance star, lowered his own M50 American record for the indoor 1500 in his first indoor meet at the 168 Street Armory in New York. He ran 4:10.07 — equivalent to an open time of 3:35.2. This was Monday at age 52, at the same meet where Marie-Louise Michelsohn shattered the W70 American record in the same event. “I had the previous record of 4.13.56, which was also established at the meet one year ago but never ratified,” Anselm writes. “I just missed the World Record of 4.09.98 which is held by Pierre Faucheur of France.” Anselm says he has all the paperwork, “so I don’t see a problem of getting the record ratified.” Good on you, Anselm! Bless you for keeping papers at hand.
Here are results from the Armory:

Congratulations to Anselm for beating all but nine of the open runners. And kudos to Philadelphia’s Kevin Forde for running 16th (in 4:15.86) and Francis Burdett (believe he lives in Worcester, Massachusetts) for running 27th in 4:20.10. Always a pleasure to see the masters “represent” when going against young people.
I do hope that Anselm’s new record of 4:10.07 will see the light of day at http://www.usatf.org within the next 12 months.
And masters runner Tom Fitzpatrick for running 4:21.03 for 28th (I missed him at first). Hope to see Anselm, Kevin Forde, Francis Burdett, and Tom Fitzpatrick at the Hartshorne Mile next month at Cornell University (Ithaca, NY).
great results….way to represent the Old Guys!
Anselm, it looks like your going to have another spectacular year–I am extremely happy for you-congrats my talented friend!
Congratulations Anselm! Fabulous!!
Nice work, Anselm! And good luck going after that WR. Looks like it’s right there for you to grab!!
Nice time Anselm! & it’s ONLY December!!
Healthy 2012
Way to go Anselm! I’ll bet your next Indoor 1500 will be in World Record Time.
Well done Anslem and the other fast old farts. Seriously… its awesome to see you all still so fleet footed. Keep it going gents.
I simply want to reiterate Peter Taylor’s comments above about the masters sterling times at the Armory – excellent early season speed – Anselm, Kevin, Francis and Tom! Hope to see all of you up here in January chasing the Cornell Bear at Barton Hall. I can outrun Peter Taylor, but can’t out-think him.
Thank you, Tom. Yes, you can definitely outrun me, and you’re probably smarter as well. I will see you in 18 days up in Ithaca. I hope this year’s rendition of the Hartshorne Mile is the best ever.
