Athletes around the world offer personal masters advice

Hans Röcken is an M65 thrower in Germany. Marin Garrigues, born in 1965, holds a French age-group record in the 60-meter hurdles. Cornell Stephenson of Los Angeles is a trainer loves to set M40 relay records. And Marianna Biskup of Poland is a masters jumper. What do these folks have in common? They have generously volunteered to be mentors, advisers and guidance-givers to their fellow masters athletes. They sent me their name and email address for inclusion on my international masters email directory.

I
announced the directory almost four years ago. It was created to satisfy a crying need in masters track — one-to-one contact with other athletes in our state, nation or event. Novice and experts alike often train by themselves, and coaching isn’t available in our area or on our schedule.
Unlike other email lists, mine is totally voluntary. These folks — from at least 15 countries — were courageous enough to have
viagra online their addresses posted in a place where spammers can easily spot them and confident enough that they have something of worth to offer.
Today I did some late spring cleaning on the email directory — updating old addresses with new, adding athletes names and linking to official online directories you might not know about.
I probably missed fixing some addresses. If yours is on the list — and is wrong — give me a holler.
More important, check out the athletes (and some coaches) on the directory and write them! If you’re a thrower looking for tips on the spin or a sprinter having trouble with a start, write the folks on the list. If you live in a place where track meets are sparse, find someone in your locale. They might have ideas for where to compete.
We’ve reached an age where we’re not afraid to ask for help.
The folks on my email directory are saying: “Ask me!”
Take ’em up on it.
