Atleticanet duo: statmeisters to Italian masters stars
![]() Diego Cacchiarelli and Werter Corbelli make belle statistiche.
|
Diego Cacchiarelli is a 38-year-old gentleman who lives in Macerata, “a Medieval town in the center of Italy.” Werter Corbelli is 50 and resides in Rimini, near the world champs site of Riccione. I recently raved about the stat work on the Italian masters Web site and wrote them a fan letter. Diego responded and answered some questions. So now we know the names behind the numbers.
Here’s what Diego wrote:
I’ll respond for both of us because Werter is a little busy with his work.
Masterstrack.com: What are your main occupations?
Diego: I’ve worked in a bank for years, but from this year I’ve started a new job in the communication area. In the meantime I’m studying for my second degree (the first is in law, this other one will be in science of communication).
Werter: Modern Art
Do you still compete in athletics? If so, what are your best marks?
D: I was a walker and my PB is 1h38 on the 20km when I was 20 (many years ago). Now I’m a lazy jogger and a coach.
W: 3-4 competitions every year. My PB is 1.48 in high jump — also in long jump! (added by Diego! 🙂
If you competed as youth, what were your PBs?
W: High Jump 1.95 meters and 5436-point decathlon in 1976
When did you start compiling records and rankings?
D: Werter is the compiler, I’m only the coordinator of the two sites (atleticanet and atleticamaster). Luigi join Atleticanet only one years ago.
W: in 1998, I started with the Olavi Niemi’s list (in Finland).
Are you paid for this?
D: No. (Lately, we have installed on our main site (www.atleticanet.it) a banner to make donations with paypal, but our visitors are not very generous.
W: Nooooo, a volunteer
What do you think of the official WMA world age-group records?
W: Very slow
What do you think of the work of Martin Gasselsberger at mastersathletics.net?
W: A great work.
What do you think of establishing a world organization devoted to masters athletics statistics?
D: It’s a great idea, and Ii think it’s possible to do with a little bit of cooperation. Have you any ideas about that? If you want we can talk about in a specific mail.
A worldwide masters statistician group would be supercool. Anyone interested in helping launch this?
