Aussies in the middle of outdoor nationals, aim for awesome results

I signed up for Sacramento worlds yesterday. Pain-free operation. M55 hurdlers around the world can breathe a sigh of relief: I’m bypassing the short and long barriers this year, focusing on the sprints and high jump. (But London 2015 — hope, hope — will be my M60 debut, so be very afraid.) At the same time, Australians launched their four-day masters outdoor national championships in Brisbane, site of 2001 worlds. See results here. I’m hammered for time right now, but if you see some exceptional marks, post them as a comment. I also note a new book: a history of Aussie masters track. Check out details.

Aussies are also featuring a men’s and women’s 100-meter “Champion of Champions” races on Saturday — like USATF nationals used to do with its National Masters News-sponsored age-graded races:

Nice to see mother-daughter throwers Ruth Frith (age 101) and Helen Searle (age 71) picking up Golds.

Unfortunately, I don’t see either signed up for Sacto Worlds.

Too bad, because Ruth is a real pistol and media magnet. When asked at the Sydney World Masters Games to what she attributed her longevity and athletic prowess, she said, “I don’t drink, smoke or eat vegetables.”

Not seeing any real Elite performances-age graded 97% or above. Anyway, that is my personal definition of an exceptional performance-anything over 90% is good, 95% or higher- very good, and once in a great while you witness or read about a 100% performance -(like Shaheed running a 2:08 this summer at age 62)

    W65 5000 Meter Run

    1 Petrie, Lavinia W67 VIC MASTERS 21:29.56 14:30.33 99.35%

WOW! About 1 minute off the WR. Last year Lavinia ran a 21:09.72 = 99.29% (age 66) So this latest performance is actally at least as impressive.

Mens 75 400 was exceptional as well about 1.5 seconds off the WR
