Bill Collins and Rick Riddle write book for masters sprinters
First he’s named USATF Male Masters Athlete of the Year. Then he collects more medals at indoor nationals (despite a stress fracture in his right leg). And over the weekend he won a handicap 200 at Texas-Arlington (see the video on YouTube). Now we learn that he has a book coming out soon. Is Bill Collins busy or what?  Certainly he’s blessed with incredible talent. Now we’ll see if this translates as a sprints author. He and fellow Texan Rick Riddle have written a how-to book called “The Ageless Athletic Spirit: Speed Training for Masters Athletes.” Release date is May 11, 2009, and the publisher is Illumination Publishers International, whose primary focus is Christian titles. Illumination is affiliated with the controversial International Churches of Christ.
According to the publisher’s blurb:Â
Masters Sprinters are a unique breed with a competitive drive and the desire to continue to learn, grow and excel in their chosen sport. Finally, we have a resource that will feed that hunger and help sprinters continue to achieve and improve. . . . You’ll learn new training methods, new skills but most importantly you’ll learn new ways to think about yourself as a master athlete. Also featured with the book is a DVD, with Bill Collins teaching and demonstrating the skills to have great starts in the short sprints.

Congratulations Bill on your first of many books.
It was a real pleasure to run in this race with Bill and the other great people in the race. This will be Bill’s second book. By the way, in the next heat, Jeremy Wariner only ran 20.85 and Bill ran a 20.53
Bill smoked my butt, I think Rick got me at the tape too….. I was wayyyy back there on the start!!…he had a better time that Jermey Wariner in the following heat….fun day for us all…cold and windy but we all survived it…
Bill and Rick are both Great Masters Athletes and very knowledgeable in all aspects of Track. They’re also two of the nicest people you will ever meet. I can’t wait to get my copy of the Book. I know it will be very instructive.
Don’t see what the religious affiliation of the publisher has to do with what will probably prove to be an excellent book! But then maybe it’s just another attempt at a good report turned “sloppy”!
I am trying to get Rick Riddle’s email. He knows me from Masters track meets. Pete Clarke
Can you get me Rick Riddle’s email or let me know how I can see our videos of the 100 and 200 at Waterloo in Leander on May 23, 2009. Thanks, Pete
