Bob Lida better than Mo Greene? Lowers own M75 WR in 60

Bob (right) at indoor meet in 2012.

Competing at Wichita State University, world champ Bob Lida clocked 8.44 seconds for 60 meters Saturday, blasting his own M75 world indoor record of 8.56 set at Jyväskylä worlds in 2012. Results of the Bill Butterworth Invitational are here. Bob, the 2012 IAAF Best Masters Athlete, writes from Kansas: “It [was] a well attended meet. Had people in from Colorado, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas. … Also ran a pretty fast 180 meter.  Unfortunately it was a 200-meter race. Fell apart at the 180 meter mark and staggered in with a 27.76.” (The listed indoor WR is Bob’s own 27.64.) Bob says he got a copy of the FAT photo for record purposes. On the Age-Graded Tables, Bob’s 8.44 at age 77 is equivalent to an open mark of 6.18 seconds. The actual WR is Maurice Greene’s 6.39. So yowza, y’all! (We’ll keep a lane open for you, Mo. You turn 40 in July.)

I sent Mo Greene a note vis Facebook, offering news of Lida mark and asking if he we would run at 40. He replied: “Not for me.” But hailed Bob’s mark with “Good job.”

Amazing sprinter! Bob was right next to me in that heat. First time to run against Bob & I am 20 years younger than him. It was a fun race even though he ran .4 faster than I did.

I’ll have to try “staggering” if it will get me into the 27’s. Incredible athlete.

The WMA Age-Grading tables are always a work-in-progress, with the steady advancement in Masters
performances. This is a case in point. It’s all guesswork of course, but the important thing is
to have the AG marks “plausible” (i.e., the very best masters records generally “on the fringe” of,
say, the alltime top 5 of the professionals?)
Whatever, kudos to Bob – ‘world class’ in every way!

Bob you are the best by far. After rooming with you in Riccione,I’ve decided to continue our after breakfast
tradition..the 2 mile walk on the beach. However, this time I’ll be representing you in NYC, so I’ii be wearing the long Kansas Jayhawks shorts.Like may others,I can’t fill your shoes but I can duplicate your shorts.
