Coach Dunton signals end to his training Web site
Coach Ross Dunton of Tennessee, whose masters newsletters and Web site articles have been quoted and reposted around the world, plans to take down his Web site as he focuses on his battle against Alzheimer’s disease. “I will not be staging/hosting any track meets and will no longer need to have a Web site, so I have told my Web hosting company that I no longer need it,” he writes in his latest newsletter. “I do not know (if) it will disappear or just float around in space.” But he shares this hopeful news: “I will continue publishing the newsletters and providing coaching information.” Ross’ Web host appears to be Interland, according to this info.
Here’s Coach Ross’s latest report on his Alzheimer’s fight:
Aricept—My body has not adjusted to the 10mg as it is supposed to. However, it is continuing to improve my performance. I can type a lot faster and I remember where the keys are located. There was a period of time when I would leave out several letters in a word. When I was concentrating on the details of the sentence I would forget to type in a couple of letters in a word. It is now easier to think about “A” and do “B”. Yes, Aricept does work, but it is not much fun taking it.
I am “partially” retiring. I and three other members of the USATF Tennessee Association have filed formal grievances against the Association President. These should be adjudicated by early September. Once this occurs, it is my plan to not be a candidate for re-election as Association VP and Masters Chair.
I will not be staging/hosting any track meets and will no longer need to have a website so I have told my web hosting company that I no longer need it. I do not know it will disappear or just float around in space. I will continue publishing the newsletters and providing coaching information.
We plan to leave on July 27th for the Nationals in Orono. I will be taking this computer along in our RV so I will probably have newsletters on some of the days during the trip. I have entered the 4, 8 and 1500. I may finish dead last, but I will be there. This will be our third trip to Orono. Maybe we will see a moose this time—I just hope that it will not be on the road in front of me.

Dear Coach Ross-
thank for the update. I have referred to your site many times over the past few years and have made record of the info I access most. I appreciate your experience and wisdom- it has served me well.
All the best!

Ross and i were on the University of Cincinnati Track Team from 1951-53. I also participated in Master Track and Field and enjoyed his Newsletters for years. We were also in the same Fraternity with four other members of the track team. I think we’re getting old, keep at it Ross.
