Competing in National Senior Olympics? Jump to it!
Mike Soule, posting on our Forum, writes: “If you are planning on competing at the National Senior Olympics in July, there are a couple of dates you need to know about. First one is the Limited event varification form. That was due on the 31st of December. What is it? Well in Minnesota our Senior games didn’t have pole vault, so I was able to qualify at our state’s USATF championships. Now I didn’t know it was suppose to be in till yesterday and Greg Moore at NSGA allowed me to send my verification in via e-mail.”
Mike concludes:
“Entries still have to be postmarked and mailed to the New Orleans P.O. box by Feb. 15th. More info can be found at; www.2007seniorgames.com/athletes.html
Rules are at www.nsga.com/pdffiles/LimitedEventInstr.pdf
If you’re going in July, you’ve got to get on it now.”

The following paragraphs were lifted from my blog, which was written before I learned about the December 31st deadline for the Limited Event Verfiication Form. This was apparently due before Dec 31st, BUT I DIDN’T RECEIVE MY REGISTRATION BOOK UNTIL JANUARY!!! Anyway, here’s my original posting.
Ok ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú I?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢m a little hacked off today. My ?¢‚Ǩ?ìRegistration Handbook?¢‚Ǩ¬ù for the Senior Olympics Summer Nationals arrived on January 3rd. There was an opportunity for freebies and $ off if you were one of the first 1500 athletes registered before December 29th though ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú Gee, sorry I missed the deadline. That?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s not what I?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢m hacked off about, but it does sort of set the tone for the rest of the story.
What I?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢m hacked off about is that I was pretty excited about qualifying for the 2007 Nationals in Discus and Hammer during the 2006 season, and I was seriously thinking about attending. That is, until I read my ?¢‚Ǩ?ìRegistration Handbook?¢‚Ǩ¬ù.
According to the rules, you have to pick up your registration packet a day in advance. That pretty typical but it does necessitate an extra night?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s stay in a hotel, unless you just happen to live in Louisville, Kentucky. Then, they conveniently placed an ?¢‚Ǩ?ìidle?¢‚Ǩ¬ù day in-between the Hammer and the Discus competitions. That makes for 3 nights in a hotel ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú minimum. And that?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s assuming you can get a flight out of Louisville late in the day of the last competition. Otherwise, you?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢re looking at 4 hotel nights. Oh yeah, did I mention the non-refundable entry fee?…$115 for your first event, and $25 for the second one. Cha-Ching – $140. Plus $50 extra if you get your registration in after February 15th. ($190 for just 2 events if you fail to enter 4-1/2 months in advance! ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú Are you kidding me!) As if that?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s not enough, my 2 throwing events have been inconveniently scheduled between July 1st and July 4th. Gee, I guess you either have to pay for hotel rooms for your entire family too, else they just have to do without you for the holidays.
Needless to say, for a total tab on the wrong side of $1000 the Senior Olympics Summer Nationals can bite me.
This feels a lot like some of the stuff I got at USATF. I’m not sure where the 12/31 date for the limited event verification form is coming from? The form and instructions clearly say the form is due by 2/1. The qualification period ended on 12/31.
I’m glad I noticed this post anyway. Not sure why they have a different date for registration and this limited event form. I guess Greg has his reasons.
