Cornell Stephenson injured, puts off comeback until 2013
Cornell Stephenson, a world-record sprint relayist and author of our only masters track novel, reports sad news: His track comeback has been delayed. Cornell writes: “I broke my (left) humerus bone (between elbow and shoulder, completely shattered) while at work and was hospitalized for three days due to complications. So I’ve decided to hang up my spikes at least until the age of 50.” He says 29 stitches have been removed “and rehab started today.” Besides rehab, his other preoccupation will be his son Ty, now 9: “My son is very talented, so maybe I will focus on making him the next USAIN BOLT!”
Cornell continues:
I look forward to seeing my competitors and friends achieve new heights during my absence. The hardest part about it is that I was in great shape leading up to the accident and looking forward to challenge my 2004 season. Oh well, until 2013. . . . I’ll stay fit and once I’m able to do more I’ll be fine by 50 in time for the 2013 WMA. Keep Me in Your Positive Thoughts!”
We can’t wait to see you again powering down the track, Cornell.
Stay safe and see you in 2013.

I feel for you. It is good that the injury was not at a joint area. Have a speedy recovery, but take your time.
What book did he write and where can it be bought?
Thanks Michael, my book is titled ‘THAT MASTERFUL SEASON’ and is available at amazon.com or you can order it through BORDERS.
My Friend for life stay healthy.
Hang in there lil brother. Sometimes the clallenges that we face in life carries us to even higher heights than originally hoped for. You and Tyre enjoy each other and I know that you are grateful to God that things were not worse.
Everyone in DC is praying for a FULL recovery and know that your comeback will be great. Call upon the angels who are always available to lead the way. By the way, from what we have observed, Tyre is close on your heels at the tender age of 9!
All the best!
Your DC Crew
Quick link to book on Amazon is at bottom of my review:

It’s not the end of the world, everything happens for a reason, but don’t try to live your life vicariously through your son.
I watched the miraculous(sp)first stages of your recovery and know that your faith and the excellent condition your body was in prior to the accident were definite positives that many of us would not have had. Be blessed and continue on your journey of healing!!!
Be blessed (Tyre has excellent beside skills as well, maybe the title Dr. will precede his name!!)
Cornell,
I completely understand how you feel. 50 is the new 40, man! Enjoy the time with your son and come back with a vengeance.
to my fellow track and field fanatic who coached and trained me to 4 gold medals in the 2004 us transplant games..whatever you need im there!! i look forward to trailing you by 20 meters in practice:0-) wishing you a speedy recovery! Have a ball with you son.
Hi Cornell!
I know the track won’t be the same without you! Thanks for being such a wonderful inspiration to Alec– your friendship to him has been priceless. Your son is a very blessed to have a dad like you (and he’s soooo cute!).
You’ll be back :))
Only a Kappa would withdraw from competition because of an itty-bitty broken arm! On the other hand, because you are an outstanding father, there is hope that your son, Ty, will be able to surmount your shortcomings and become a stalwart Omega Man at The Real HU – where Olympic Medalists are produced. I wish you a speedy recovery! May God keep you and your son in His eternal, merciful grace!
Love You, Brother! 🙂
