Courageous Carmel Papworth-Barnum wades onto the Web

Carmel, the new webmistress.

Carmel Papworth-Barnum loves taking risks, venturing outside her comfort zone. (She married a world-class sprinter a couple decades her senior, after all.) And she moved from her home in southern Australia to northern Nevada. Now Carmel, the former editor of National Masters News, is moving onto the Web. She writes: “I wanted to share with you what I’ve cialis been working on for months. It’s a website for women runners. I’m just starting to feel like it’s ready to put out there. I’ve still got so much I want to add but it’s rolling along. . . . My focus is women runners of all ages and at ages with advice on training, racing, nutrition (Nancy Clark), motivation, etc. I want to motivate women to take order xanax up running and to keep running. I’ve also put up my travel guide to the Sydney Masters Games.” Her site is called women-running-together.com. It’s a wonderful resource, even straight out of the blocks.

Here’s my quickie Q&A:

Masterstrack.com: Where did you get your Web skills? The site is nicely designed and well thought out.

Carmel:  Thanks. After months of research, I bought a software and training package from SiteSell (http://www.sitesell.com/) and taught myself. It was slow going at first. I’d rather do mile repeats then the initial get ambien detail work.

When did the site go live?

I started building pages after Christmas, so WomenRunningTogether was up by New Year’s. But I didn’t tell anyone so I was pretty much invisible. Only in the last month have I felt ready to “go live” and let people know about the site.

Besides your husband, Larry, and Nancy the nutritionist, who is helping provide content for the site?

At this stage it’s me. I’m keen to have others’ cenforce expertise, perspective and contributions. As people get to know about us, more want to be a part of WomenRunningTogether. So they’re sending us suggestions, stories and pictures, which is get phentermine good, because we’re very receptive. Now, I’m trying to make it come together.

What will your site provide that similar sites don’t or won’t?

More of a women’s perspective. Many women runners say they don’t quite have ambien a home. We’re hoping to fill that niche; be their village. They’re a lot of good sites out there, like yours, who we’d want to work with. Sure, we’ll overlap at times. But women want more for and about them and their running without spending a lot of time on the web trying to find it.

WomenRunningTogether can become a favorite and be part of their “Windows” shopping. We’re talking with some very competitive masters women out there and some younger joggers. We like that mix, the learning from each other.

Women runners of all ages and abilities, from all distances, sprints to marathons to ultras, can form a community where women can give and get support and advice and hear each other’s stories. Where women inspire others to start running and to keep running whether it’s for xanax health, fitness, competition, friendship or sanity.

How is your own running going? Tell me about your Carlsbad 5000 race.

I managed to keep running through the winter in Reno so I’ve got a good base. Now, when it warms up, I need to work on some speed. Carlsbad was great fun, fantastic atmosphere and a real blast to stand on the start line with over 1,300 women, all over 40.

You don’t get many chances to race with so many women. There was always some one to chase or hang on to. Wanted to run faster but who doesn’t? I wrote about it under my What’s New page and put up an after-race photo with Nolan Shaheed.

What will you run at Sydney WMG? Does this mean no Lahti for Larry?

I’ll run my favorite event the 5K and also the 1500m. We’re still trying to swing Lahti in there too, if we can get amoxil 1000mg some deals. Larry’s coming back from an injury from Spokane, but we’re both hoping to be ready.

What kind of race do you have in mind for Reno?

The non-profit that I volunteer for, The Solace Tree, helps children grieve if their parents, siblings, grandparents, or loved ones have died. We want to put on a series of kids races to raise awareness of our program and raise money. Run mile races for 12 to 7 year olds and shorter distances for the younger kids.

We might even have a mile race for the parents so we can involve the whole family.

Your new site looks great, Carmel! You speak for both women and men who share the joy of running at any age, and especially the added pleasure and benefit of running together, whether training or in competition. I particularly enjoyed your What’s New/Running Shorts Feb 26th article on Dr. Jill Biden running 5 miles a day. Keep up the good work!

    Hi Carmel
We had the pleasure of meeting Larry in Riccione, my husband, Stan Immelman competed with Larry in the 800 and 400.
I do believe women runners need a platform to share with each other (and with men, if they tow the line !) and would love to make a contribution from a South African perspective.
Good luck and I am looking forward to ‘devouring’ your website !
    Kind regards

Great to see the new site, Carmel! Women most certainly have unique needs, interests (and strengths!) that need to be addressed when it comes to running specifically, and to exercise generally. Hopefully, your site will help stimulate an increase in women’s running, especially masters women’s running, and T&F generally. Hope to see you (both!) in Lahti!
