DoubleTree in Sacto, Team USA home, issues booking reminder

Entrance to Sacramento DoubleTree.

Janet Waldie, director of sales and marketing at the
DoubleTree by Hilton Sacramento, writes: “We are the official hotel for USA athletes and wanted to urge them to get their reservations in before the block fills up.” Methinks most people already have nailed down their lodging, but just in case you haven’t here’s the link.   The site is for WMA entrants, and it says: “The special room rate will be available until June 2nd or until the group block is sold-out, whichever comes first. Room Rate includes Continental Breakfast each morning for up to two people and transportation on a scheduled basis to Sac State.” I spoze you can still get the discount rate, since hotel folks generally want to move their inventory.

Meanwhile, the Sacramento meet organizers are trolling for volunteers — even among entrants.

Here’s the letter many people got from Stephanie Valdes of the Sacramento Sports Commission:

Hello Athletes!

We are looking forward to your arrival and can’t wait to share in the excitement!

My name is Stephanie and I am the volunteer coordinator for the World Masters Athletics Championships 2011. In order to make this event a success we are in need of 1,500 volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering when you are not competing we would love to have your help!

We have volunteer positions ranging from “Athlete Packet Pick-Up” to “Throw Retrievers” to “Sand Pit Rakers” to “Award Distribution”. If you would like to volunteer during the event please click on the link below.

It will take you to the “Volunteer Page”. Here you will be able to browse all the positions that are available, you will also find the locations and times.

We would like all volunteers to work a minimum of two shifts. Each shift averages 4 hours. You do not have to do both shifts in one day, you can spread them out throughout the event if you’d like.

If you have any questions, please let me know.
