Final word on 2009 Sydney World Masters Games officiating?

Natalie Soltyszewski, media director for the Sydney 2009 World Masters Games Organising Committee, writes: “In regards to claims made on your blog about tweaking of rules, here is a link to our Athletics Sport Information page which contains a copy of our Sport Information Guide. This documents the rules of compettion, and the rules related to Horizontal Jumps and Throwing Events and the 100m are in accordance with IAAF rules.” I had trouble opening the “Sports Information Guide” on that page, but I’ll take her word for it. So I guess if you go and they don’t give you six throws, you know who to complain to.

In case you were wondering …
5.7.4 Advancement Rules for Field Events

When there are eight or fewer competitors, all shall be eligible for six trials. Competitors joining the high jump and the pole vault after the start must commence at the height at the time of entry.

Why did you make this false alarm Ken? It was unnecessary and caused problems.

I have attended the last three World Masters Games (Eugene, Australia, Canada). All were well-run and enjoyable. The competition is not as good as you will get at Lahti, but will still be a good meet. The Australians are sports crazy and a very gracious people. I plan to go and recommend the competition to others.

Go to page that is linked. Scroll down to the “Sport Information Guide” link. That link will download a PDF document but it isn’t labeled as such. Click on that link and when asked what to do with the file, either open it with Adobe Reader, or save the file to your hard drive, then add “.pdf” to the file name. Then it will likely open for you.
