Florida is final qualifier for National Senior Olympics
The National Senior Olympics — held in odd-numbered years — is one of the few events for 50-plus athletes that requires “qualifying.” I’m unclear what the standard is, other than simply recording a mark in an official qualifying State Games or State Senior Olympics during 2006, but that’s the drill. In 2007, the track meet portion of the National Senior Olympics will be held in late June and early July at the University of Louisville (they split the meet into two parts: 50-64 and 65-plus.) The news is that only one qualifying meet is left: the Florida Senior Games State Championship.
The Florida meet will be held Dec. 9-10 in Cape Coral. But only one glitch for Southerners thinking they can bop on by and take a lane: “To compete in the 2006 Florida Senior Games State Championship, senior athletes, age 50 and above, must qualify at one of Florida’s local senior games competitions,” says the Web site.
Oh well.
Anyway, results have arrived for one of the other last-chance qualifiers for the National Senior Games — the Hawaii Senior Olympics held earlier this month. Meet director Mark Zeug provided these stats to Jack Karbens, who forwarded them to me.
