Friday Night Lights — all-comers meets in Houston

Springtime may be track season for high schoolers, but it’s only the first third of the long masters track season — which extends late into October. In Houston, masters have the option of competing six Fridays in a row starting June 1, reports our M55 high jump friend Milan Jamrich. He writes: “Beginning the Friday after next, June 1, the annual Puma/Rice University Friday Night All Comers Track Meets will once again kick off at Rice University’s Track Stadium. The meets, which have been a staple of the Houston track and field scene for more than 20 years, will continue for six Friday nights through July 6.â€

Milan continues on what he calls the Puma/Rice University Friday Night Meets Set:

Each week, the entry fee is $7 to participate in as many events as desired.
The schedule, which can change with special events being run at a specific time each week, is generally as follows:
6:30 p.m. — 110 hurdles, one mile race walk
7:00 p.m. — 400 hurdles, 100 meters, 800 meters, 400 meters, 200 meters, 1500 or mile run, 3000, 4 x 400 relay
An exact schedule will be posted each week with any additions and changes.
All events, which will be heated at that event’s starting line, are fastest heats first followed by slower heats, and, if necessary, women first followed by men. If anyone is not there after the the event has been heated may not get a lane or heat in the heat you wish.
Meet organizers indicate that a 4 x 100 relay can be run each week at 6 p.m. if they are notified no later than 5:30 p.m. of a desire to compete.
Individuals desiring to compete in field events are advised to contact the meet director at least three (3) days in advance.
