Gambling casino to be site of Spokane athletes dinner

Masters athletes are risk-takers by nature. Now they can take chances with their money as well. The Spokane masters nationals will hold the traditional athletes dinner at the Northern Quest casino, an arm of the Kalispel tribe. This isn’t a first, however. Gambling could be had at 2003 Puerto Rico worlds as well. The Friday night athletes banquet at Spokane has a limit of 600, so you might take care of that soon. (They’ll serve steak and salmon for $28. Chips are extra.)

Also, we learn: Regina, Sasketchawan, is hosting the Canadian masters nationals August 1-3 — the weekend before Spokane. Registration for the Canadian Masters Championships can be found here. And Spokane nationals info is posted here. The North American, Central American and Caribbean World Masters Championships are August 28-31 in Clermont, Florida. Here’s the Web site for that meet — the site of the 2009 USATF masters nationals.
Also, for those wanting to hit both the Canadian and USA masters nationals, Doug Smith writes:

Carol Lafayette-Boyd, one of the Regina organizers, had checked on bus charters, and found that a bus can be chartered for 47 people for about $190 per person. If you are interested in transport from Regina to Spokane, please contact Carol at saskmasters@accesscomm.ca

The Hayward Classic in Eugene is also scheduled the week before the Nationals. It’s too bad we have a conflict between two excellent meets.

Agreed about the conflicting meets and it’s also a bummer those meets are so close to Nationals. I’ve decided to compete in the Hayward Classic along with Nationals but it’s definitely not my preference in terms of timing.
Hopefully this will not be an issue in the future.

When the WAVA championships were held in Brisbane, the meet headquarters was in the casino. And a pleasant setup it was, too.
