Gearing up for the summertime version of Hartshorne Masters Mile
On the East Coast, they have the Hartshorne. On the West, the best masters mile may be Dave Clingan’s races in Portland, Oregon. My old buddy Dave writes: “The 8th annual Oregon Masters Mile is approaching, scheduled for Saturday evening, June 9 at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, OR. This event features the top masters milers (age 30 and up) in the USA and has been the site of several American and World age-group records. This year will be especially exciting, as a couple of outstanding American runners are poised to break the world record for men in the the 50-54 age group. Any runner over 30 who runs sub 4:45 is an automatic qualifier and other runners under 5 minutes will be accepted on a space available basis. The prize money offered to the top three runners is $200 for first, $150 for second, and $100 for third. Please add this event to your calendars and spread the word. More info about the mile is on-line.â€

Ive ran both the Hartshorne and the Oregon Masters Mile and they both are first class put on by two of the nicest, most hospitable gentlemen in all of Masters Track & Field.
I wouldn’t miss this years event so I can trip, err, I mean CHEER the guys going for the M 50 mile world record.
Remember fellows, it’s 4:25 not 4:27.
Nolan – first of all – ANOTHER fantastic year for you! You continue to amaze and set the bar for the rest of us to aspire to.
I too have run on both coast events and Tom & Dave do a first class job. Although I prefer the wider turns and longer straights of the Outdoor circut.
Stay healthy and see you in Portland.
Nolan – We are all well aware it’s 4:25! Running against you when you posted the 4:26 indoors and then marveling at the 4:25 outdoors is what made me believe it just might be worth continuing this sport until I was 50 myself. You opened a lot of our “young” eyes to what can be accomplished, no matter our age. And of course, now you’ve done the same for age 60! We may not get your record, but chasing after it (this past decade) has been well worth it regardless of the outcome!!!
Wow, this should be quite an event!!! A few of the best runners in the world shooting for a world record in the mile… awesome! I would love to be a part of this spectacle. I’m going to see if I can work it into my summer schedule.
They should be a timer at the 1500 mark of the race- 50-54 1500- 4:05.2 WR, 4:05.8 AR equivalent of about 4:24.2 & 4:24.8 in the mile.
no women’s race?
