GeezerJock editor starts blog, notes The Villages
Sean Callahan, the editor-founder of GeezerJock, has started a blog. And his post for today is titled: “All the geezerjocks in training are safe and sound.” Sean writes: “Thanks for asking, everyone — our geezerjocks in training from The Villages, Fla., all emerged unscathed from last week’s tornado that struck central Florida.” Great to see Sean join the blogosphere — and post on a day sacred to all denizens of Chicagoland — Super Sunday. His Bears are going for da trophy down in Miami.
Sean continues:
First, a little background. Last year, with The Villages GeezerJock in Training program, our magazine followed 12 athletes as they prepared for the Accenture Chicago Triathlon. Six of the athletes in the program were from The Villages, an active adult community in Sumter and Lake counties. After the big tornado that struck near The Villages, I’ve received a number of emails asking whether our athletes were all right. They’re all fine, although there were definitely some scary moments for a few of them.
Nate Leech, a swimmer from The Villages, lives near his parents in the community. “My 80-year-old parents had some damage to their courtyard villa fence,” Leech wrote us in an email. “Their outdoor furniture and grill were all tossed around. They were a couple of hundred yards from the path of the tornado. VERY lucky.” The Villages itself is unbowed. We’ve been told that the damaged homes already have subcontractors working feverishly to repair them. As one of our contacts assured us, “Just try to tell everyone that [it’s] not as bad as the news is portraying!”
Sean started the blog only 11 days, writing:
This is the first entry in “Forever Athletes,” a new blog that I’ll be writing as often as possible. This is a work in progress, so I’m not completely sure what I’ll be covering in this space. What I hope this space becomes is a place for GeezerJock to keep in touch with the people the magazine and Web site were created for: Masters athletes. I’d like to post in this space the achievements of Masters athletes. I’ll note in “Forever Athletes” when an athlete makes his or her first ever appearance in a Masters event. When an athlete returns from an injury. When an athlete sets a personal best. When an athlete sets a national or world record. Or when an athlete celebrates a birthday, especially when that birthday “ages up” an athlete and puts him or her in a new age bracket. So don’t hesitate to keep me abreast of your accomplishments. Post them in this blog, or just send me an email at scallahan@geezerjock.com.
What to cover? That’s easy, Sean.
The news. And you just did.
Carry on, champ.
