German doper is back throwing, setting ‘records’
Germany’s Klaus Liedtke, a notorious drug cheat by all accounts, has emerged from a two-year doping suspension and, uh oh, set another world record in the shot, according to the Koops’ Web site. That gives him four age-group records in a row (M50, M55, M60 and now M65). But he’s not being greeted with welcome arms, according to Stefan Waltermann, who translated the news for me and added his own comments. Stefan writes: “Liedtke truly must be an idiot.â€
Here’s the English translation:
After a two-year suspension for doping, Klaus Liedtke (born 1941) returned to competition with an M65 world record in the shot put. In the eastern Westphalia city of Bad Salzuflen, the 66-year-old Liedtke pushed the shot to a world record 15.42 (50-7 1/4); the old world mark is listed at 15.12 (2002 Hal Smith, USA),\; the old European mark shows Karl-Heinz Marg of Germany with a 15.23.
Also, at the same competition on May 1, 2007, Liedtke’s discus throw landed at a remarkable 56.66 (185-11) and a foul throw even went over the 60m (196-10) mark. Ten days ago, Liedtke won the shot put in another competition at the town of Lemgo with a 14.35 (47-1).
Liedtke’s comeback is surrounded by controversy.
Last week, trying to enter the throwing competition in Bremerhaven in the northern part of Germany, his late entry was denied. He was told that this regional competition would not accept late entries. Things got a bit out of hand when he was not even allowed to stay as a spectator.
Klaus Liedtke was the owner of a gym when he tested positive for Oxymetholone at the 33rd German Multi Event Championships in 2004 in Luebeck on the Baltic Sea. Liedtke never issued a statement and received his two-year suspension. According to rumors, the doping control back in 2004 was based on prior knowledge or information given to the testers.
Then Stefan offered his own views on KL’s history of doping:
Oxymetholone is the strongest oral anabolic steroid and it kills your liver. Even in the German bodybuilding scene, the so-called Oxys are considered extremely dangerous. Still, the stuff is used for short-term gains. Ten pounds of muscle in the first and second week, not much in the third week.
Ken, these folks are totally nuts. You need to take some form of cortisone to protect your liver while taking that poison. Oxy can and will metabolize into estrogen. To combat this, you need to take anabolic testosterone! You’ll get acne, jaundice, hepatitis, gynacomasty (big breasts), strong hair loss, headaches, diarrhea, insomnia. Liedtke truly must be an idiot.
By the way, I went to the Web to get the info about the juice these idiots are taking. Wouldn’t it be funny if we could detect them by their D-cups? They would have to face the mistake of choosing a large size with too small a cup, rather than a smaller size with a larger cup. Since we don’t test at our (USA) national championships, we might at least have a chance to gawk!
The original German post:
