Germans drop baton, may miss deadline for Riccione

According to the Koops’ masters site, Germans wanting to enter the Riccione worlds in September may be up a creek without a beer stein. “They are acting goofy over there,” writes one of my German-speaking friends. “Set their own deadline on May 31 while the WMA deadline is May 31 as well. If they go through with it, ALL Germans are going to miss the deadline. By the way, in the past, WMA had an extended deadline against extra pay, of course. Not this time around. Pretty funny. I’m sure they will work something out. A world championship without the Germans would be like Oktoberfest without Lederhosen.”

Another friend writes:

When I checked some time ago, the Germans had their entry deadline listed as 5/31 — ours is 5/14. Therefore, unless someone can get hold of everyone, those that don’t have a computer may not be getting into the game. I assume Germany can wait until 5/30 with their mail and then overnight it to Italy.

Whatever.
How crazy is this — the powerhouse German team sitting on the sidelines?
I’m sure there’s some world-class scrambling going on behind the scenes.
Stay tuned.
Here’s the original post, followed by a rough translation:

Message for Masters WM in Riccione: Problems for the DLV?
In a short report the Masters Leichtathletik world union underlined WMA at the week beginning again that the deadline (“DEAD LINE”) for XVI. Masters Leichtathletik WM in Riccione in the September of the 31. May is. WMA Secretary-General Winston Thomas (GBR):
“That means that the messages must be present with the national federations long well before this date.”
Thomas continues to recommend to examine the thing with the respective regional organization in order to ensure a correct message. It looks actual completely in such a way, as if the correct message for the DLV could become a problem, has it nevertheless the national deadline (“entrance at the DLV”) for the WM in Italy on the 31. May fixed. It is impossible that the messages from several hundreds Germans can be present participant inside and participants still on the same day with the organizers in Riccione.

As one who often criticizes the USATF’s treatment of masters athletes, let me be the first to note that since taking over responsibility for receiving and sending entry forms and information to the WMA – they have not missed the deadline and left US masters standing on the sideline holding empty beer steins.
Thank you USATF for not screwing up the deadline!
That may sound like damning with faint praise – but think about it – imagine what would happen to the US entries if Indianapolis had set the deadline for US entries as the same day as the WMA deadline – we would all be sitting home – wondering how to recover hotel deposits and air fares – while I suspect the German Masters Federation will cut a deal with the WMA. I doubt that the WMA would care at all about the loss of a couple of hundred US entrants- but a couple of thousand German athletes – that is a whole different thing.
What a hoot – someone really screwed up in Deutschland –
Thanks for publishing both the german version and the rather weird translation Ken
