Got glitch? Here’s how to fix display flub for masterstrack.com

After migrating this blog to WordPress on Tuesday, we quickly became aware of a display problem (screen shot below). This is a nuisance courtesy of Microsoft, whose Internet Explorer browser is the bane of many webmasters’ existence. It can’t understand simple CSS instructions. It sucks. Fortunately, many other browsers display masterstrack.com properly. The best is Firefox. You can download it free. Get Firefox here. Firefox is best for Macs but also has versions for Windows computers. Find your version here. WordPress is a turbocharged system, but Ferraris do have their breakdowns. So please continue to inform me if you spot problems. We aim to please!

This is how some monitors display this site.

If this is how my blog displays, it's probably due to Internet Explorer browser or having an old Windows computer. Using another browser should fix the glitch.

The newer Internet Explorer versions are okay, or at least okay enough to see this website correctly. Even if you’re still on Windows 2000, you can perhaps upgrade to a more recent version of Internet Explorer which should help you see this site, as well as many others, correctly.

Had to adjust hyperlinks to the site—but works great.

Dear Ken – Yes, it appears to be true — I can see the new version okay on my XP PC, but not okay on my older PC w/ Windows 2000. It’s really a shame to make changes that require people to upgrade their software. Perhaps in the future you should check out what it’s going to do to your reader base. This continual need for upgrading just to keep up with the latest costs money, something not everyone can afford. Ron K.

Just learned this morning that google agrees with me. They’re no longer supporting MSIE V.6x with their services.

As much as we would like our computers to have as long a usable life as our toasters, they simply don’t.

    Here’s more.
