German M70 superstar Guido Müller broke his foot last weekend while lowering his own world record in the 300-meter hurdles at German nationals, according to the Koops’ site. Christine Mueller and Bruno Kimmel also set WRs, according to the post. (Results are posted here.) The listed M70 WR for the long hurdles is 49.07 by Canada’s Earl Fee in 1999. Guido ran an incredible 45.24, which corresponds on the Age Graded Tables to a 400 hurdles of 45.00! If Guido can’t run at Lahti, he can take consolation in a season that already qualifies as one of the greatest in his age group in history, with world records also set in the 200 and 400 and some events indoors.
Here’s a rough Google translation of the Koops’ post:
Three world records in DM II in Vaterstetten:
Guido Mueller, Christine Mueller and Bruno Kimmel Three World Records excited the spectators on the first day of the German Championships Seniors II in Upper Bavaria Vaterstetten! The remarkable event created the Masters athletes Guido Mueller, Christine Mueller and Bruno Kimmel (Photo: v. re). The Pfälzerin their time was not only new German record holder but also the second fastest-W50 hurdle runner of all time. Subsequently, Guido Müller (* 1938, TSV Vaterstetten) “his” 300-meter hurdles in 45.24 seconds back. That was exactly one seconds faster than Christine Müller in the eagerly awaited duel run. Up to half of the race, the Swiss still located in front. Only when they step on the 19er frequency converter, sat down in an elegant and powerful running Gudio Müller at the top. However, the IAAF Masters of the Year 2004 the new world money, he moved to have a fracture of the foot Plantarsehne with no further launches in Vaterstetten longer allowed, and – despite optimistic doctors – including a start in the forthcoming World Cup can be rather unlikely.

No fracture, Ken. Guido has suffered a partially torn tendon of his plantar fascia.

I expect with good taping Guido can run flat-footed and still win all but one of his events ! When I was 50 and coming off the curve of a 200, my plantar facia suddenly became extremely painful, but I was able to finish the last 100 by partially hopping along & won with 24.99s. It was a heel spur, not a tear. Mike Pannell (a terrific 400 hurdler) used to endure all sorts of painful plantar problems. Another friend once had a tear while running a 200 and the doctor told him that he had saved himself from needing surgery to lenghten it. Ron K.
Guido’s injury is bad news. I really hope Guido Müller can make it to Lahti. Running the 400m with Guido is like being whirled around in a spin dryer and thrown out gasping at the side of the track. It’s rough but Guido can get you an age personal best.
