Half-milers go crazy over weekend: WR for M40 Whiteman

Canadian crew averaged 2:09s.

Maybe the supermoon had something to do with it. Anthony Whiteman beat kids half his age in winning a British Milers Club 800-meter run in 1:48.05 — lowering his own listed M40 world record of 1:48.22 in 2012. “I am quite shocked with that as when I did 1:48.2 in Indianapolis. The conditions were absolutely perfect and it is a superfast track,” Whiteman told the BMC. “I would have been happy running 1:49 tonight.” The BMC tweeted “Amazing run by @Whitemansub4_40, the first ever master to win a BMC GP ‘A’ race!” At the 40th annual Canadian Masters Outdoor Championships in Toronto, the M50 quartet of Serge Faucher, Andrew Tuovinen, Mike Sherar and Paul Osland claimed a 4×800 WR of 8:36.39, beating the listed mark of 8:39.01 by an Aussie crew in 2011. (See results.) And at the California State Games north of San Diego, M50 sprinter Kettrell Berry’s son Amaree won the age 9-10 800 in a stunning 2:13.41, crushing the listed record by Obea Moore by 6 seconds. Masters champ in year 2040!
