Harvey clears hurdle on way to IAAF masters post
Rex Harvey apparently had no competition in Indy, so he’ll be the U.S. nominee for membership on the IAAF Masters Committee — a decision to be made at the IAAF world meet in Osaka this coming summer. Also, masters delegates at the USATF annual meeting chose Bob Fine and Bill Collins to represent the United States at the WMA General Assembly in Riccione, Italy, this coming summer. If they can’t make it, the next in line as WMA delegates are Carroll DeWeese, Dave Clingan, Marilyn Mitchell and Christel Donley. The USA reps to the WMA Women’s Committee in Riccione will be Donley and Sumi Onodera-Leonard, with Mary Trotto as alternate.
Another tidbit from the USATF masters meetings:
A delegate reports:
“(USATF CEO Craig) Masback came in while we were discussing our poorly functioning Web site — and how we need to assert some say-so for its design and content. (I got to get a shot in about how the restrictions of the National Office have hindered our development over the last seven years before he was introduced).
“Masback was asked about our Executive Board position potentially being restructured out of existence. In response, we got professional doubletalk about the USATF Board of the future being composed of professional board members without a constituency.
“This was in response to an earlier statement to the effect of ‘If we aren’t doing our job, hold us accountable.’ When Max Hamlyn complained about a lack of response to the North Carolina Organizing Committee over a two-year period, Craig wanted details and almost handled it like a personnel matter. ‘If someone on my staff isn’t doing their job, I want to know about it.’ ”
