Hayward Masters Classic returns in June after skipping a year
After a two-year absence, the Hayward Masters Classic returns this summer to the University of Oregon. A new Web site, based on the runnerspace video archive, features clips from the 2008 event, which included a half-dozen world age-group records. The 2009 Classic was canceled because of renovations at Hayward Field and an inability to move the meet. Here’s a video of Bruce McBarnette setting an M50 American record (1.91/6-3 1/4) at the 2008 Hayward Classic:

It would be nice if the steeple was on the second day. Steeple should always be near the end of the schedule. It prevents those wanting to run the 800/1500 or other races. Very difficult to run anything after a steeple. It is usually this way at the worlds. Sure, it can be done, but really it saps your legs and you can’t hope to have a great race the next day. It just makes sense to have the steeple as one of the last events.
Interesting because I love having the steeple early to get it over and done with! I don’t compete in other, events, though. Also prefer to be able to have Sunday to get back home over the mountains.
Hayward Classic is a great meet and stoked it’s back.
