Here’s another way for masters to sneak into Penn Relays

So you don’t have a relay team or go fast enough to qualify for an individual masters dash at the Penn Relays?  No sweat. Tell your boss (or former boss) about the corporate distance-medley relay at Penn. Last year, some USATF masters competed, including M50 sprinter Archie Glaspy (for AT&T)  Check out this PDF for entry form and details.

Here’s some basic info:

Dear Corporate Runner:

Yes, it’s back! The 24th running of the Penn Relays Corporate Distance Medley Relay “Championship of America” will be contested on Friday evening, April 24, 2009 at approximately 7:00 pm at historic Franklin Field in Philadelphia – and your team is invited!
The Penn Relays Carnival is the oldest and largest track meet in the world with more than 12,000 athletes competing annually – and the Corporate Distance Medley Relay (DMR) is the only corporate running event at the Relays.

The DMR consists of a 1200m, 400m, 800m, and 1600m legs respectively. All 4 runners must be paid employees (or retirees) of the same employing organization1. Each team must have 1 female runner, 1 master runner (age 40 or more in year 2008), and 2 runners of any age or sex. The female runner and the master runner must be two different competitors.

The event is limited to the first 30 teams to submit paid registrations by Monday, April 6. If a check is not available, you may hold your team’s place by sending me your entry as soon as you are certain that your team will run. The entry fee is a contribution of $200 payable to the “University of Pennsylvania” to help support the Penn Relays. Full entry information is enclosed.

Last year, General Electric finished first in a field of 23 teams in a time of 10:44.40 and all four GE runners took home official Penn Relay watches. Runners for the other top five teams received individual Penn Relay medals; but runners at all levels of ability may participate. Complete results from 2008 are enclosed.

If you have any further questions, please e-mail me at Stew.Beltz@comcast.net or call my cell phone at 215.275.6215. I hope your team can join in this unique and prestigious event!

Sincerely,
Stew Beltz
