Introducing the News and Muse masters track poll!

Well, thanks to that fancy new Finish Line Pundit blog by Jimmie Markham, I’ve discovered a great new way to gain and share feedback. Below is a poll that works quite nicely. Supposedly, it doesn’t allow you to vote multiple times from the same computer. Whatever. It’s still cool. Anyone can create a poll and post it on their Web site or blog. So here we go. Lemme know what you think of this great new tool.

No way. Ban all internet polls. “Scientific” polls have enough problems with margins of error. Internet polls are all error.

I voted “Maybe, just for guidance…” because anyone who wants to vote multiple times need only change their IP address to do so. So after voting from home I’ll take my notebook computer to my local coffeeshop with Internet access and vote again and I’ll also tap into my neighbor’s (unsecured) wireless signal and vote again. Get my point?
Internet polls are for “entertainment purposes only” and should not be used for anything of a serious nature.
Computer are my living – track is my life!

I voted NO. I agree with reservations expressed by David and Larry. Such polls are unscientific, filled with cheating and lead to biased conclusions, misallocation of scarce economic resources, bad feelings among friends, election of the wrong candidates, etc.

Introducing the brand-new masterstrack.com Forum!

Since February 1999, I’ve been an active member of the masterstf mailing list (or listserve) on Yahoo Groups. (It started out as egroups but was bought by Yahoo!) Starting today, I will no longer post messages to that group. I have a better place to go — my own message board! The new forum is light-years ahead of the bulletin board, or guestbook, I once had on my old home page. This past February, I celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Masters Track & Field Home Page, and the new forum is belated icing on the cake. I welcome y’all to partake!
