James Lofton loses job with the San Diego Chargers
Norv Turner, coach of the San Diego Chargers, didn’t kick his dog when he returned home from Foxboro after losing to the 18-0 New England Patriots on Sunday. He kicked his receivers coach, James Lofton, off the club. Fired him. A stunner, to say the least. NFL Hall of Famer James, who we see running the 400 at SoCal masters meets, was shocked as well, telling The San Diego Union-Tribune: “I don’t have any idea (on the reasons behind the firing). I was stunned. (Norv) just said he was going in a different direction.â€
I’m very sorry to learn this but think he’ll be snapped up quickly. He’s one of the best receivers coaches in history, and other NFL teams (and colleges) know it. (James has been hankering for a head coaching job for several years, in fact. Maybe this is his chance.)
My big fear is he’ll move out of San Diego. But his daughter Rachel is still in high school, and he’d probably like to stay. Both sons are out of the house. Maybe this move has a silver lining for James. He still has a shot at some M50 records. Maybe he’ll have more summer weeks off to train and compete. Best of luck, James!

James is a class individual and if he wants to continue coaching will probably land in a better role. If he could stand to work for Jerry Jones we would love to have him back in Texas.
It’s San Diego that is losing out. JL will be a leader and make a positive impact regardless where he lands. See you on the oval.
