Janvrin dominates Day 1 of WMA world decathlon

Kip Janvrin is making mincemeat of his M40 competition in his first masters meet. After Day 1 of the decathlon — a day in which he won all five events — he leads with 4339 points. That’s well on the way to erasing New Zealand’s Simon Poelman’s M40 world record of 8277, set in June 2004. On the female side, Hall of Famer Phil Raschker is leading the W55 heptathlon with 3471 points.

Janvrin began the day at the World Masters Athletics Championships in San Sebastian with 11.56 for the 100. He followed that with a 6.78 long jump (and two fouls), a 14.01 shot put and a 1.80 high jump. He concluded the day with a 49.46 for 400 meters. Incredible.
In second place? Rori McWade of Zimbabwe has 3280 points — more than 1,000 points behind.
Going into Day 2, Phil is 52 points ahead of Switzerland’s Margaritha Dahler-Stettler after winning the 80-meter hurdles (13.76) and 200 (30.06). Phil was second in the high jump (1.24) and third in the shot (7.82).
Results on the WMA site are not easy to find, but they exist in a series of very detailed PDF files. Here is a results link to Day 1 of the 16th world masters championships.
To find results for a given day, first go to this page (called “Qualifying standards” on the home page rail on the lefthand side). Then click on a venue (there are three) under the date in question.

CONGRATULATIONS TO KIP JANVRIN FOR A NEW MASTER’S WORLD RECORD IN THE 40-45 YEAR OLD DIVISION! 8,623!! NICE!!
Also… Great job on running a 4:25 – 1,500 meters with NO COMPETITION!! Instead of cruising it in for the easy win and easy record, you RAN IT!! I can appreciate a GOOD 1,500 with an open PR of 3:58 and a decathlon PR of 4:01!! Way to bring it home!!
The marks you’ve been able to maintain over the years are UNBELIEVABLE!! I wish I could’ve lasted that long. I’ve got to stick with running only nowadays.
