Javelinist Roald Bradstock gears up for his eighth Olympic Trials
Two-time British Olympian Roald Bradstock, the artist with the javelin, turns 50 next month. But he’s the No. 4 qualifier for the UK Olympic Trials. (He threw in the U.S. Olympic Trials four years ago; he has dual citizenship.) On Saturday — three months before his eighth Olympic Trials — Roald began his 40th competitive season at the Georgia Relays in Athens, GA, he writes. “On the last throw of the competition, I threw my best opening competition throw in 12 years. The throw measured 72.35 (237-4), which was enough to win the meet. This throw moves me up to #4 on the 2012 UK Rankings and #1 on the 2012 World Masters Rankings. My next big goal in the lead up to the trials is going to be to attempt to shatter the World and National Age Record for 50+ which currently stand at 71.01, and 65.90, respectively. It should be noted that these 50+ Age World Records are done with a smaller, lighter javelin that weighs just 700 grams.” He now throws 800.

Living legend. Good luck Mr. Bradstock.
Wow…..just Wow!!! 50 yrs old and still World Class! One thing I am learning about Masters T&F is there is NEVER a shortage of inspirational material.
Roald. Your javelin performances are magnificent. Your charisma too. BUT that PSYCHODAELIC UNION JACK OUTFIT! Beware of British Masters Athletics Federation (BMAF) Track & Field Manager Maurice Doogan and his BMAF. Way back in 2006 I e-mailed Maurice Doogan from Sweden to innocently and politely enquire whether I may or may not compete in my Swedish club vest at the 2006 BMAF Indoor Championships at Cardiff, Wales.
Judge then my dismay at learning in 2010 that, unknown to me and thus without me having any chance to refute it, Maurice Doogan and his compliant BMAF chairman Winston Thomas on 5 November 2006 had told the delegates of all 11 BMAF clubs and thus the entire British masters community a total cock-and-bull story including “…and a previous dispute with Treacher on which vest to wear at our championships.” The idea was that I was questioning Doogan’s authority on the spot at the Cardiff championships, when instead I had simply made a nice polite enquiry long in advance at what should have been the safe distance from Doogan of 1,433 kilometres.
Roald, do not think that even in Denver, CO you are safe from BMAF malevolence. That Union Jack outfit has assuredly got you into Maurice Doogan’s infamous “Black Book.” I see “Bringing the Sport into Disrepute” and the Tower for you Mate.
