Jeanne Daprano goes west for W75 record runs, nails the 4 and 8

First Marie-Louise Michelsohn claims two WRs shortly after turning 70. Now it’s Jeanne Daprano’s turn. Five weeks after hitting 75, Jeanne journeyed from Atlanta to run at the Club West Masters Track Meet at Moorpark College on Sunday — about midway between traditional site Santa Barbara and Los Angeles. Carmel Papworth-Barnum shared the results: “Jeanne Daprano broke two world records. She ran 3:07.35 for the 800m (WR was 3:13.66) and her 400m was 1:22.59 (WR was 85.40). I haven’t see Jeanne for awhile and she looked so good, I can’t believe that she is 75! She said that her body is feeling great at the moment — no injuries no aches or pains. I don’t think that happens very often to masters.” Haven’t seen other results, but what a great meet for Jeanne. Age-graded, her times are worth 1:44.97 and 48.54. Congrats, superstar!

Jeanne, you are a gazelle. You are wonderful to watch, and I am glad to be your friend. You know how to hammer those 800s, and you’re terrific in the 400 as well. The 1500 and mile? No problem.

One of my proudest moments was announcing you in North Carolina when you became the first 70+ woman to break the 7-minute mile. You are great.

Congratulations on setting two world records this late in the season!

It’s off-topic, but it appears that the Guinness Book of World Records is giving the Fauja Singh the “Douglas Kalembo Treatment”, by not accepting his proof-of-age.

Jeanne, two records this late in the year is fantastic–better take a little recovery break before you crank it back up for Indoor!

    Ditto, all above!
On another topic, though… is it time for another
    revision of age-graded tables? 1:44.97?..
I’ll pay the highest compliment by suggesting her
times might be more in the :49.9? and 1:56? range.
(That’s plenty good, if you look at alltime U.S.
lists. Probably, they’re all on who-knows-what
pharmaceutical help, so I just think that a good
‘rule of thumb’ for masters age-graded marks is
that the VERY best performances are probably worth
somewhere on the fringe of 10th alltime for open level – anything better would be suspicious, those
open marks being what they are..)
