Kevin Forde clocks 4:32 mile after insane first lap in Philly
Kevin Forde isn’t the best M45 miler around. He’s just the gutsiest. On Saturday, he competed in the Philladelphia Distance Track Classic. On his wacky blog, Kevin describes his mile race thusly: “Remembering my vow to have a better reaction to the gun, I reacted first and not only held my postion on the rail but went into the turn in the lead. Came through the first lap in a staggering 60 seconds. ‘Dib’ said be aggressive, I don’t think he meant be this aggressive!” Kevin crossed 800 at 2:08, “a little uneven perhaps, but it was important to get a feel for a fast pace and seeing how well or how badly I’d hold up to it, form wise I felt I was doing well.” At the bell, he was at 3:19. “At this point the cold the wind and the rain were no longer a concern. . . I was content to close in 83 seconds to finish in 4.32.08. not far off of the 4.31.83. I closed the outdoor track season in August under much more favourable conditions.”

Great running, Kevin. And congratulations as well to our very own Lorraine Jasper (ran in W45 at Landover) and Cheryl Bellaire (W50 at Landover). The results show that Lorraine won the mile and Cheryl took care of the 800 at this meet (the Phila. Distance Track Classic). As is often the case, our masters tracksters can prevail even when running “from scratch.”
It was just pointed out to me that my final lap was a 73 not 83 as first mentioned,I guess the cold, wind and rain were still w/ me post race as I blogged…..either that or the blood and oxygen hadn’t returned to their respective places!!
Kevin ~ that is how you grab a race by the nuts and hang on!! Good on mate!
