Kingstad ups own M55 world indoor vault record
How do you go higher than a summit? You go to the University of Wisconsin. A week after the National Pole Vault Summit in Reno, where he topped the listed M55 indoor WR in the vault with a jump of 4.11, Jeff Kingstad went 4.12 (13-6 1/4) yesterday at Madison, according to this post on Becca Gillespy’s message board. The official school Web site confirmed the mark, saying: “Former Badger Jeff Kingstad, a UW letter winner from 1971-74, broke a world record in the pole vault in his age group (55-59) with a clearance of 13-6 1/4.â€
One witness reported:
He did indeed get the 4.12 clearance (and there was margin in the measurement). He actually took three decent vaults at 4.27 and if the initial height sequence had been followed he might have made 4.20. I had a VERY close view of the vault! . . . He also helped with the vault officiating (womens prior), as he always does when he has time. And, he had to drive down five hours, including some snow, which is probably not the ideal preparation. I think he has some more in the tank.
BTW, M60 John Altendorf has posted this video of his 4.00 world indoor record at the summit in Reno. Jeff’s video is expected shortly as well.
