Krug, Lewis add records at USATF Masters Throws Nationals
On Ultra Weight Pentathlon records, Jerry adds:
W85 – Gloria Krug 4180 points (first woman in the age group ever to do an Ultra Pent, so it’s a record)
W65 – Myrle Mensey 5822 points (breaks Mary Hartzler’s 2014 record of 4025 – Mary also broke her old record with a score of 4081)
W55 – Neni Lewis 5210 points (breaks Carol Finsrud’s 2012 record of 4621 – Carol also broke her old record with a score of 4635)
M65 – Tim Muller 4483 points (breaks George Mathews’s 2008 record of 4356 – one of the two oldest UWP records on the books)
M45 – Eric Cole 4703 points (breaks Pat Toland’s 2014 record of 4441)
Gloria’s ride to Illinois from near Gettysburg, PA, fell through midweek, so she made her own flight arrangements to fly to compete, Jerry notes.
“And Neni, who is battling back from injuries to her neck, shoulder, hands, and most recently her right Achilles’ tendon, was on pace to also break the throws pent record in W55 when she fouled three times in the discus on Saturday and decided to conserve her energy for Sunday.”

Thanks for posting this Ken. I just found another record that wasn’t on the list I was given. Joanne Marriott’s 4009 points in the Ultraweight Pent broke Gloria Krug’s W75 record of 3634 from 2010.
Today we confirmed another record – by John Goldhammer (M60) in the Ultraweight Pentathlon with a score of 4886 points surpassing Bob Cedrone’s current record of 4844 from 2015 as well as his own mark set earlier this year. There was a transcription error in putting his distance with the 98# weight into the scoring that was caught by none other than Bob Cedrone in reading this blog; he then called it to our attention and it was just now verified by co-meet director Sue Hallen after checking the field sheets.
Congrats to John, an astonishing talent, but please give a Great Man award to Bob – this is just like him. A man of rare character. How many guys work hard to show that someone just broke his record? I am blessed to know both men.
Thanks very much for the nice comment, Mike Fortunato, but an award is neither sought nor necessary. I like to think that all throwers would do likewise if they were in the same position. As you know we don’t own records, we only rent them for a time. I am honored to have held the AR for a spell, and am even more honored that an athlete of the caliber of John Goldhammer broke the record.
