Laynes and Cornileus post hot M40 sprints at Mt. SAC open meet

Cornileus at Lahti.

Jeff Laynes, continuing his M40 debut sprint tour and aiming for open nationals, ran a nifty 10.78 legal 100 Saturday at Mount San Antonio College at the local USATF SoCal Association Open Championships. See results here. We also note a wind-aided 11.08 and legal 22.91 for M35 Mahasse Cornileus, who gained our attention at 2009 Lahti worlds by taunting an opponent in the next lane with a tongue-flapping display of bad sportsmanship that led to a quiet intervention by American teammates. Also remarkable was the courageous 22.17 by M50 Jeff Davison in the 110 hurdles — set at 42 inches. He took eighth in a race won by Hector Cotto in 13.62. Jeff knows no fear.

Aw what’s a little high jumping every 10 yards?

  3. Jeff Davison - June 7, 2011

Thanks Ken, Al, and Andy . . .
I was fortunate to finish 42″ both Saturday and Sunday. Sunday with a slightly better time. Hope to continue to compete in the 36″, 39, and 42″ for a long time. I like the challenge.

In San Diego the winner stated “your one of the OGs . . . I have nothing but respect for you guys”
OG = Old Guy . . . it was a nice compliment he gave Masters athletes!

Ohio Nationals – don’t forget about the Shuttle Hurdle Relay. 2011 the Shuttle Hurdle Relay is now an official event (no longer just an exhibition). The event is elgible for USATF medals as well.
The last running event on Sunday – maybe 3 PM.
