Love is real: Dave Clingan weds before hundreds of friends

Dave Clingan, my partner in crime, found a new partner for life last night. He married Tricia Snell. Nearly 200 friends and family members celebrated their marriage with hoots, cheers and flash photos galore. Masters running buddies Rich Burns and Pete Magill also attended, and Bill Donahue of Portland, the freelance writer who brought Tricia and Dave together, treated the revelers to a reading of their introductory email exchange. A touching tune played on guitar and sung by Lucas, Tricia’s high-school son, thrilled everyone. He gave an amazing rendition of “Love is real,†written by John Lennon. The potluck meal and informal setting at Staver Locomotive (home to a scale-model railroad and catering business) was perfect for Tricia and Dave, who had both been married before. Dave’s son George, headed off to the College of Puget Sound this fall, also was present. This morning, Dave and Tricia head off for a week’s cruise in Alaska, where their love will melt the glaciers. Congrats, my friends. You won the biggest race yet.

The Persians have a saying, “Jigere tu berahm” which is a very endearing statement…read that …passionate. The translation is, “I love your liver.”(I know, I never got it either). Love each other more today than yesterday. Smartty

Dave and Trish sent this note August 29 to folks who attended the wedding:

    Dear friends and family-

We are back from our Alaska honeymoon and are still savoring the many blissful moments of August 14th. Thank you so much for being there! Being surrounded by so much joy and love — from all of you — made it a perfect day for us.

We are happy to report that your donations to our not-for-profit fund amounted to over $3500. Thank you so much for that! We are donating $350 immediately to a very deserving local organization called p:ear, a small grass roots organization that provides essential services to kids in need. Here’s what they do:

p:ear builds positive relationships with homeless and transitional youth, ages 15 to 24, through education, art and recreation to affirm personal worth and create more meaningful and healthier lives. Each year our programs serve more than 350 homeless and transitional young people.

You can read more about them at http://www.pearmentor.org

We hope to continue raising money for the Snell-Clingan foundation in order to sustain annual donations to similar worthy causes. Please check our website for news about how your donations are being utilized to help kids in need.
