M50 ‘unknown’ sets 800-meter indoor world record in Belgium
At Lahti worlds, I was glued to the main stadium, so I didn’t witness races at the other track called Radiomaki. Missed some great 800s, including Anselm LeBourne’s close M50 loss to Belgium’s Andre Lafere, 2:00.99 to 2:01.40. Well, maybe I didn’t know Lafere, but now the world does. Andre broke American Steve Gallegos’ listed M50 world indoor record for 800 Saturday at the Belgian nationals in Ghent. Andre clocked 1:59.74 to nip Steve’s 1:59.99 at Idaho nationals in 2005. Belgian 800 results are here. For all events, click here. On the Age-Graded Tables, Andre’s mark is equivalent to an open time of 1:44.09!
Here’s Andre’s race:

It was an impressive race. At the start he immediately ran away from his colleagues and maintained a high speed. His split times were perfect. Extraordinary!
Ehmmm… Weia, but… Have you set a WR you too?
1,40 in high jump W60 vs the listed 1,38 set by Phil Raschker… isn’t true?
Yes, andycop,
Great André and great Weia! 1.41, 1.42, 1.43…is near! WR are the initials of Weia Reinboud! 😉
Well done Weia – congratulations.
I wasn’t in the best shape, could not do real workouts for six weeks. 1.45 was a near miss.
Weia,
My sincere apologies. I was racing at the meeting in Ghent as part of the British squad you probably noticed! I saw and photographed the M50 800 race, and head a rumor that there had been a HJ record as well, but I had no time to research it properly, because I seemed to be racing or warming up all of the rest of the day. I only got the results when I returned home, thanks to Pino. I didn’t know it was you who had jumped the record. It wasn’t Ken who missed you from the story, it was me!
Well done. It was a quality meet.
Tom
Tom, I should have read the participant list better in before…
Very nice meet, very nice track, nice old town, next year European championships!
Thanks all for the congratulations.
Nolan’s outdoor WR 1:58.65 might be in jeopardy, who would have thought?, that is flying!
1:59.74 = 1:46.5 on the new 2010 age scoring tables
