M85 Canadian thrower suffers cardiac after Riccione

Douglas Smith of Canada shares this sad news: “It is with some shock that I have to report that Garry Bachman suffered a mild heart attack on Friday. Fortunately, he is recovering well in the hospital in Bowmanville and will undergo an angiogram, possibly followed by angioplasty early this week to repair the coronary artery blockage. As most of you know, Garry recently returned triumphantly from Riccione, Italy after winning five gold medals (in the M85 throws) and and a bronze medal at the WMA championships. He is a remarkably fit person and I’m sure that will go a long way towards a good and speedy recovery. Please join me in wishing Garry all the best.”

Doug also said Garry’s son-in-law, writes:

Garry was transported from Bowmanville to Toronto early this morning for the angiogram which revealed four blockages. The surgeon did an angioplasty on the two which he believed caused the heart attack originally. Due to his weak state, the other two will be dealt with in the future when he regains his strength. He is spending the night at Rouge Valley Centenary Hospital in Scarborough and will be sent back to the Bowmanville hospital some time tomorrow. Depending on his recovery he may be discharged later in the week to recuperate at home. Thanks for your support and get well wishes and hopefully he will give you the next progress report.
