Marie-Louise Michelsohn smashes W70 indoor AR in the 1500
Running at the Armory track in Manhattan on Monday night, W70 Marie-Louise Michelsohn shattered the American record in the indoor 1500 meters. Her time at the Open and Masters Holiday Classic was 6:14.56, which lowers the listed AR of 6:43.30 by Jeanne Daprano at 2008 indoor worlds in Clermont-Ferrand, France. The meet was USATIF-sanctioned, she confirmed. “I was pretty nervous about the meet,” she says. “I came down with a cold Friday night. It fortunately was a short one but Sunday night, the night before the race I was up all night coughing. Felt much better on Monday but I am usually weakened after a virus — my mother always said you are for the same length of time as the virus lasts.” With luck, she says, she’ll the world record of 6:10.65.” On the Age-Graded Tables, MLM’s 6:14.56 is equivalent to an open mark of 3:54.7. Incredible. Nice race, Marie-Louise!

What a performance by Marie-Louise, as she shows once again what might be possible for women and men who enter the sport relatively late in life.
In terms of record acceptance, here’s hoping for the best. As you may recall, Ken, on February 1 of this year you posted a report on Anselm LeBourne, whose 4:13.56 in the 1500 at this very same meet in December 2010 broke the American M50 indoor record.
As I believe you are aware, Ken, Anselm’s 1500 record went absolutely nowhere, never even getting a “pending” designation. Let’s hope that Marie-Louise does better.
Awesome job!!! Congrats and I hope your record will be fully recognized.
What an inspiration you are Marie Louise! Fantatic achievement.
Pete, FYI, Anselm ran 4:10.07 in the open 1500 at this year’s meet.
Excellent, Chuck. Let us hope that this mark gets accepted. As you know, Bill Krohn has the indoor record at 4:13.98 for the M50 1500, and that mark has held up despite Anselm’s 4:13.56 of a year ago.
By the way, that’s a remarkable achievement by Anselm — running 3.49 seconds faster one year later. He must be in great shape.
Super job Marie-Louise!
