Masters chair names key appointees as 2007 begins

Gary Snyder may become the masters version of Ronald Reagan “the Great Communicator.” In email he sent today to 60 masters leaders, he begins a regular report on what’s up. The subject line: View from the Chair. Among his announcements: “I have appointed Joy Upshaw-Margerum, Pacific Association, as the Championship Site Selection Chair. Joy has extensive contacts through out USATF and her first assignment is to find a site for the 2009 Indoor Championship.” She’ll need some help, though. So if you know of an indoor track that might be induced to host the 2009 nationals, speak up!

I plan on a monthly communication around the 15th unless something urgent pops up . . .
The Games Committee team is comprised of the following:
Jim Flanik Chair
Carroll DeWeese
Rex Harvey
Len Krsak
Sandy Pashkin
Gary Snyder
The committee will be in action in Boston for the Indoor Championships.
The Awards Chair is Dave (Clingan) of rankings fame. Dave has some new thoughts regarding the selection process which I am sure he is anxious to share with us.
Jerry Bookin-Weiner has accepted the Weight Coordinator position.
On December 19th I met via conference call with the National office on several issues including the budget and the rankings system host. Unfortunately I have nothing further to report as of this date. I have asked Janet Smith to champion the Skills Survey initiative of the Strategic Plan.
Me again:
Picking Joy to rustle up some meet sites is an inspired choice. She has 10X the energy of Ken Weinbel, the previous Championship Site czar. Joy knows a lot of people in USATF and will leverage her contacts to find some great candidate sites.
The new Games Committee is pretty much the same as the old one, except Sandy Pashkin returns to the committee after a time away. And Gary replaces Becky Sisley. Also gone from the committee is Dick Hotchkiss. He’s also shedding his weight coordinator title, too.
Sandy is a genius at meet scheduling. She helped produce the amazing Saturday schedule at Charlotte after many events were canceled Friday night. But she also probably backed the four-throws edict as well. Didn’t produce many happy campers.
I love the idea of a Skills Survey. Why not take names and talents? Then at least we know where potential volunteers are. (It may be as simple as saying, “Please help.”)
All in all, a good start for Chairman Gary.

I would consider Albuquerque, NM for the 2009 indoor championships.
