Masters racewalk records chair takes backseat to nobody

Bev McCall

According to this post on a racewalk message board, Bev McCall is in charge of masters racewalk records. And she’s taking her job seriously enough to ask for help in vetting marks on the USATF records page. We learn: “Please take some time (especially if you or someone you know broke a record this year) and click on the links to the masters’ RW records and make sure that the information for the “Pending” record is complete, And even more important, that if you broke a record this year, that it recorded there and marked “Pending” (a lite shade of blue). If a record change isn’t currently indicated on this website and it should be please contact Bev as soon as possible.” We could learn from Bev’s example. How hard is it to post a note?

Here’s what was posted on the Yahoo Groups listserve:

Hi List Readers,

Bev McCall our USATF Masters RW Records Coordinator has asked that I post this note from her to the list…

“* Justin Kuo keeps current AND pending Youth, Open and Masters RW records on the USATF website. The pending Masters records are based on what I have sent him, and these are based on what data I have received from walkers and/or event directors. Please check this website and let me know (bevlaveck@…) if there are omissions and corrections. This needs to be done well before the 2009 USATF Convention in early December.” Bev McCall, USATF Masters RW Records Coordinator*

The website she is referring to is:

Please take some time (especially if you or some one you know broke a record this year) and click on the links to the masters’ RW records and make sure that the information for the “Pending” record is complete, And even more important, that if you broke a record this year, that it recorded there and marked “Pending” (a lite shade of blue). If a record change isn’t currently indicated on this website and it should be please contact Bev as soon as possible at: bevlaveck@…

All Pending records will be reviewed and voted on for approval at the USATF National Convention in Indianapolis in December.

Thank you for your help.

FYI: Bev used to be known as Bev LaVeck. She still holds a bunch of masters racewalk records.

One Great Lady, and indeed, a fine athlete. I will always remember how motivated she was, not only to reach her own Optimum Potential, but to share with everyone how best to do the same for themselves. Her untimely death in an auto accident in 2011 left us all with a great sadness and a part of ourselves missing. As of this writing, Feb 26, 2016, she still holds several USATF Racewalking records that have been nearly immortalized by her great gift, to persevere through immense pain and finish faster than she ever had in the past. This is the future challenge she left for every generation. If you try to meet her challenge, you will surely succeed.
