McBarnette takes M50 record even higher — again

Don Riggs of the Potomac Valley Track Club in the D.C area is reporting the latest M50 high jump record by Bruce McBarnette. Don writes that “McBarnette continued his assault on the masters 50+ high jump record at Sunday’s Sportplex Showcase. After setting the American record at 1.87 meters during the previous Showcase meet, Bruce raised the American record twice at Sunday’s meet . . . Bruce first raised the record to 1.88 meters (6-2) with a first-attempt clearance that brought a loud and enthusiastic cheer from the spectators.”

Don continued:

There was more to come, as the bar went up to 1.92 meters (6-3 1/2). At this height Bruce (kept) the audience in suspense, waiting until his third attempt to clear the new American record height. Congratulation Bruce – we know there is more to come.

On the Age-Graded Tables, Bruce’s 1.92 is equivalent to an open jump of 2.35 (7-8 1/2). Not too shabby.
This is the third meet this indoor season that he’s improved the American indoor record.
The world indoor record remains the incredible 2.00 (6-6 3/4) by Germany’s Thomas Zacharias in 1997. That mark’s Age-Graded equivalent? Try 2.45 (8-0 1/2).
