Men under 11.50, women under 65 seconds, lissen up
The masters exhibition events for the Indy open nationals are officially set — the men’s 100 and the women’s 400. Men have to be 40-plus with a 100 mark under 11.50. For the women, you have to be 40-plus and faster than 65.0. Application information was posted today, reports Invite chair Mark Cleary. The site notes that application isn’t a guarantee of acceptance. (And you have to pay $25 for the privilege.) Both races are Saturday, June 24.
Cleary says W40 Alisa Harvey, who ran sub-58 at indoor nationals, isn’t available for this meet because of short notice. Aaron Thigpen has a prior commitment and can’t make it. But Lesley Chaplin Swann and Willie Gault have already committed. Willie, of course, won the masters exhibition 110 hurdles last year at Carson nationals.
It’s always great to see him compete — but it just adds fuel to gripes that the same masters are showcased year after year. (And that older age groups never get a shot.)
Some potential male candidates, besides Willie, are:
10.80 KETTRELL BERRY (253)

Mary Kay is Australian so she would not be a possible for this event ( and I am not sure why she shows up on the Masters Track.com top 25 American list). Rebecca Connolly who just turned 40 recently has sent an entry in and has run under 64. Don Fields will also be an entry in the Men’s 100m–Thanks Ken for getting the word out–Minor correction Ken they have to run 11.50 or faster or 65.0 or faster–Also be reminded that depending on the entries we get the standard could be set slightly slower–I don’t see that happening in the Men’s race, but it could happen with the women– usually when we set the standard high the athletes meet it -but the objective is to run on race day with all 8 lanes filled and sometimes a little flexability is required to attempt to make sure that happens–Mark Cleary
