Montreal Olympian Duncan Macdonald seems to be Sacto entrant
Willie Banks and Jim Barrineau are entered, of course. So are Tricia Porter and Al Joyner (though he’s been a notable no-show for years). And those are just the jumpers. Olympians galore, and not just Americans, are entered at Sacramento worlds in July. I even got a note that Duncan Macdonald is entered at Sacramento in the M60 800 and 1500. The Montreal Olympian of 1976 at 5K? “The first Stanford miler to break 4 minutes, the several time winner of the Honolulu marathon, the first person to break Pre’s 5000m AR? The age fits, and I’m betting it is,” said my source. Could be. Now that regular entry deadline is almost here (Sunday, in fact), the list of registrants looks pretty solid. See entrants here. Check out your event and report on the superstars coming to Sacto.

Some Yank called Stone, or something, in my events. Heard the guy can write a good race.
The seed times are out of control.
But I am sure we will have some surprises…
I see some “seed” times even in my age group that are “gee I wish times” or perhaps PB from 20 years ago. Or – maybe they have found the fountain of youth – it will be interesting to see.
There was one athlete in my age group for the Lahti meet who put down times that would have been WR for women half her age. I was looking forward to meeting this amazing athlete – but she was a no-show. I guess there are “seed times” and then “seedy times”.
And yes Tom – that Stone guy is something – be careful or he will write about you.
In the men’s marathon m45 there is a crazy fast Kenyan
if his time is accurate and a Bolivian who I think was in the Sydney Olympics.
Jearl Clark in the W40 100, 200, 400, 800!!!!!!!!!
I’m looking forward to the results from the meet as the potential finals (100-400) are exciting.
There’s a cat who was 1st alternate on the 1956 OT entered in all 4 of my events. As they say in Poland, “Glorioski.” Smartty
Wow, looks like Peter Taylor’s prediction of 5700 entrants might just come true.
Some of the jumping events are really packed. For example, Bruce McBarnette is jumping against about two dozen competitors in M50.
Even Olga Kotelko isn’t alone in some of her W90 events.
Should be a great Worlds.
The M50 Jav and Decathlon is jam-packed, 30+ entered. It’s going to be a great meet!
Rob (post no. 8), because you called out my name I will give a brief response. I am now adjusting my prediction from 5700 to 5950. I don’t have any degrees in statistics, but the following has been my approach to prognostication:
With a large meet like this we won’t have many statistical outliers. Thus, I looked at the events that were doing WELL in particular age groups and considered their numbers to be guideposts (I pretty much ignored the ones where the numbers were poor).
To give an example, at 2 PM Eastern on Sunday, April 24, we now have 52 sprinters in the W50 100 dash and 61 athletes in the M50 800. If those events are not going to be big outliers (and why should they be?), then the other events will follow.
For example, the M40 800, as pointed out by Matt B. a few days ago, was pathetic at that time, having just 17 entrants. Now it has 37. Thus, it is moving toward the standard set by M50 800, which is 61, as noted.
BTW, I am guessing that 52 in the W50 100 dash is a record. Wow. Fifty-two women in one 5-year age group. Liz Palmer, Joy Upshaw, Amanda Scotti, and 49 others. Unbelievable.
Let’s aim for 5950.

Peter,
If you want your socks totally knocked off, take a look at the number of entrants in the various age categories for the Decathlon.
So many entrants that folks are going to be tripping over one another the first two days of the meet.
Seems like every US Masters Athlete who ever wanted to compete on the world stage figured it’s now or never.
Yes, Rob, I just counted 178 men in the decathlon. Assuming it will be in the main stadium, it will be quite a challenge to conduct the 10 events while running the rest of the meet at the same time (I have not looked at the schedule at all).
For example, if the hurdles are run 6 men at a time and there are 16 scratches to bring the field to 162, that will be 27 hurdle races just for the decathlon. With the different heights and spacing that will be a huge challenge.
Now for the kicker: That number of 178 is going to jump considerably in the next couple of weeks.
The Danny Everett (40-400m)?? Hope so….
