New online home for sprinters! But where are masters?
I don’t know who Alex Ray is. But he’s trying damn hard to get noticed. He’s the owner/publisher/webmaster of an “amateur Web site” devoted to sprints. Calls it sprintic.com. It’s pretty slick for an amateur site. But he’s a little too brazen about reprinting articles, such as one lifted from Scientific American. Anyhoo, I wrote him a note, asking if he’d include stuff on masters. Haven’t heard back yet. Stay tuned.
Here’s what Alex sent me a few days ago:

It’s interesting that in the “lifted” article from “Scientific American” the stated human physical limit for shot put distance just happened to be the existing world record at the time (and continues to be). Coincidence?…or fudging the numbers to make them fit reality?
My guess is that the author came up with a lower number and then was surprised to see that the WR exceeded it, so he raised his number.
Articles like that are a joke. Many, many so-called experts said that the human body couldn’t run a sub 4 minute mile. Go back to the late 1890-1900 and the “experts” said that the human body couldn’t withstand the forces that would be generated when riding in a vehicle going over 40mph.
Go back a little further in time and the head of the US Patent Office recommended closing the office because all of the inventions of any consequence had already been invented.
Crackpots!
