Nineteen geezers due at Daegu (masters-age entrants at worlds)

Jesus Garcia

Now you have a rooting interest in IAAF Daegu worlds, starting Aug. 27. Nearly 20 entrants were born in 1976 or earlier, according to research done by my statnut friend David Ortman in Seattle. That makes them 35 or older — masters tracksters. Americans Adam Nelson (shot), Khadevis Robinson (800), Derek Miles (vault) and (of course) Bernard Lagat (5000) are among them. Perhaps the oldest is Spanish racewalker Jesus Garcia, entered in the 50K walk. He’s 41. Know anyone we’ve missed? Who has the best chance to medal?

Here’s a list Dave put together (at my request, since I’m lazy):

Good luck to all masters (our colleagues) in Daegu!
Let them perform well and be in good health before, during and after the championships!
It’s a pity that Haile Gebrselassie will not be there.

Lagat and Miles the best hopes for the U.S. out of that group to medal. Adam Nelson could always bust out a big throw as well.

That’s Koji Murofushi, by the way. Two high jumpers? That’s a lot of pounding on the body over the years.

I think there is an Israli mother and daughter team and the mom is 40? The are sprinters.
