Oregon meet will have masters mile invitational

Co-webmaster Dave Clingan has announced an elite masters mile benefit race near Portland, Oregon, in mid-May. Dave writes: “This race will be the premier event at a youth meet called the Oregon Relays. The entire meet is a benefit to raise money to send disadvantaged youth athletes from Oregon to the National Junior Olympics Championships this year. Your participation will not only showcase the talent of masters milers to hundreds of youth athletes and their families, it will help this important cause.â€

Dave further writes:
This announcement is for the cream of the crop of masters distance runners. That means you!
On Saturday, May 14, 2005, I will be coordinating a Masters Invitational Mile at Canby High School near Portland, Oregon. I know this is short notice, but I am hoping you will consider entering. My hope is to put together a high quality field of 12 to 14 masters milers. In this case, anyone over 30 is eligible.
Most of you guys are from out of state and I understand the challenges of travel and expense. This is the first year of this event, so I don’t have much to offer you. I can probably arrange free home-stay housing and transport for anyone who needs it. If I can drum up some sponsors, I will also offer some prizes. No purse, but free beer at the post race party.
Think it over, spread the word. Check the Web site.
I would love to hear from you, and I would really appreciate it if you would please email me back with a yes, no, or maybe.
P.S. There will also be a more low-key, age-graded coed masters mile race (start times handicapped by age) if that sounds more appealing.
