Renee Shepherd, in training run, removes Raschker’s WR in 60
Poor Kim McKinnon. She’s a sophomore sprinter at Monmouth University in New Jersey who lost to a 50-year-old woman Sunday in a 60-meter dash. (See results.) But chin up, Kim. It took a world record to beat you! Renee “The Jet” Shepherd (formerly Henderson) says she’s been doing “general prep work outside in the cold” of late but decided to try some speedwork inside. Not bad speed: Her 8.03-second mark beats the listed W50 world record of 8.05 by Phil “The Legend” Raschker in 1997, one of the oldest marks in the books. “I run, but my primary focus is my daughters’ basketball games,” Renee tells me. “Hoping to go to Lyon [worlds], but our family funds may be tapped out after Summer AAU basketball season.” Her daughters are Grade 6 and Grade 8 stars. “Last year, I was able to run in meets during the week. We were away at basketball games almost every weekend from mid-May till the end of July. We came to outdoor nationals after spending the entire week in Chattanooga,TN, for 8th-grade basketball nationals.” Renee has a half-dozen American records and a 4×4 WR in W40 with Charmaine Roberts, Jane Brooker and Jearl Miles-Clark. From the looks of Sunday’s meet, she’ll be adding more this season.
And where does this result leave Phil Raschker? Not to worry. She still hold 12 world records (indoors and out).
Here are results from the MAC Classic in West Long Branch, New Jersey.

BTW, I didn’t learn of the record from Renee. Tip came from a Facebook friend. Renee was gracious enough to reply to my queries. She’s world-class in indulging shameless bloggers.
“Edged” Liz Palmer? Ken, you are too kind. There was daylight between us at the finish line. It’s always a pleasure to be pulled to a fast time by the fabulous Ms. Shepherd! Congratulations to Renee.
I first discovered “The Jet” a few years when announcing a Philadelphia Masters meet. Who was this woman I’d never heard of who was so far ahead of the competition? So glad I got to find out some more about her and to announce her perhaps 40-45 times over the years.
All best to you, Renee.
Renee ran for the University of Pittsburgh, and thus she is one more example of women in modern-day masters who actually had a collegiate career. When I first started announcing masters that was almost unheard of.
And yes, I meant to say “a few years AGO” in message no. 3.
Renee is beyond awesome on the track. She is grace in motion when she competes and a joy to watch.
Her 8.03 60m time which broke Phil ” the Legend” Raschker’s 8.05 set back in 1997 ( that is 17 years ago)is an incredible accomplishment. Her age Graded stats would be 8.03 = 6.94 Perf % is a fantastic 99.68%
Congratulations Renee.
Why wasn’t Renee, who had a fantastic 2014, one of the recipients of the best Female Sprint Awards last year? Just Asking??
Congrats, Renee. You are a class act both on and off the track. Look forward to seeing you indoors this year. Way to start the season off!
Wow! Inspiring. Looks like her girls got some of mom’s abilities too!
Hey were is Phil Rasker
In France, Nicole Alexis run 60m in 8″15 in W50 …this is not so fast as Renee but she will be 55 in less than one month (9th of January…)
Wow, Renee! Congratulations! You continue to be my go-to example of how amazing masters track is 🙂
Way to ROCK-et Ms. “Jet”! 😉 PROUD of you hon!
Does anyone know if Renee is related to Joe “The Jet” Henderson who was a super fast running back here in the shore conference from Freehold Boro who also played at clemson?
She’s cool like that
