Robert Thomas shown scorching his Penn relay leg
Robert Thomas, who set an M40 American indoor 400 record this season, anchored a fab 4×4 at Penn over the weekend. This Flocast video shows what strength and turnover Robert has. Results showed Robert’s Southwest Sprinters TC finished in 3:21.12, a yard behind the listed M40 world record of 3:20.83. The other team members were Tony Echeandia, Khalid Mulazim and David Jones. The world record was set at Penn in 2001 by Sal Allah, Kevin Morning, Ed Gonera and Ray Blackwell. Thanks, Joy Upshaw-Margerum, for alerting me to the video link. What a weekend!

Ken, Robert ran a great leg no question..BUT a relay takes 4 men not just one. Clearly the other 3 athletes did a great job in setting him up for the record attempt. Secondly Robert is not a member of SouthWest Sprinters…he is in fact “unattached” but agreed to run with that team at Penn.
What difference does it make if I am a member of Southwest Sprinters or not. You don’t have to be a member of any team to run at penn. So what if next year we just come up with a name like American Allstars would that would that be a better name for the team.
I just wanted to say, as one of 46,363 spectators and a fellow masters athlete, that these guys sure put together one of the best shows in town at Penn. I can’t wait to see them break the world record this year, whatever the team name may be. Tony, Khalid, David and Robert (in order of appearance), thanks for the exciting race. YOU GUYS ROCK!!!
