San Diego State masters FLASH100 exhibition returns in March
An elite masters 100 is returning to San Diego State University in mid-March. Last year, it awarded close to $1,000 in prize money, with Jamaica M40 Chris Williams, a three-time Olympian, winning in 10.62. (Chris served a two-year suspension after his cold-medicine triggered a positive drug test). Kuba Wasowski, the event organizer, writes: “The Flash100 (invitational race) provided a unique opportunity to recognize and reward top masters athletes for their accomplishments and their lifelong dedication to sport. The event was truly appreciated by the participants, spectators and the track & field community. The Flash100 was exclusively covered on RunnerSpace and received attention from such media outlets as Track and Field News and the Boston Globe.” Here’s last year’s Flash100 race:

In 2014 the Aztec Invitational is estimated at 2200 collegiate participants, not including additional professional athletes or spectators. We are hoping that the FLASH100 will once again headline the meet.”

Indoors, we’ve also learned of a meet at the site of Kamloops worlds in British Columbia.
Christa Bortignon reports a new provincial masters indoor championships February 14-16, 2014. “It will be combined with the Van Ryswyck Invitational 2014,” she writes. See details.

last year my comment was do these folks know there are woman sprinters ? I’m still wondering .
Yes we do, but unfortunately we cant get 9 to come out.. I have tried and the interest among the female sprinters is not as high as the males. Also the sponsor support only allowed us to field one race.
I have to ask how hard and by what means you tried to recruit women . Did you contact people like the S. C. Striders for instance ? It seems unlikely you would have tried too hard if “sponsor support allowed you to field one race “
I got email today that the Flash 100 event March 29 has been canceled. My source says: Quite a few Masters sprinters pulled out of the event so there was not enough of a field to contest this event this year. It’s too bad.
